There was a good turnout of 30 plus members for the pension presentation that took place on Saturday, January 25 at St. Paul’s Collegiate. There will be more information distributed in the coming months. Members had the opportunity to learn the difference between a defined benefit pension plan and a defined contribution plan (our current plan). For any members wishing more information regarding pension plans, please contact your local executive. We would like to offer this presentation again in the near future if there is enough interest in the membership. CUPE Local 4701 held their regular meeting on Wednesday, January 22.

Please note that the next regular meeting has been moved to Wednesday, March 12 from the fourth Wednesday of the month.

The bargaining committee has been formed and will meet for the first time on Sat. Feb. 1. Members with suggestions for our new contract (coming up at the end of June) should contact Tim Dupont or a committee member. Committee members are: Tim Dupont, Bruce Goodwin, Lorraine Futros, Joanne Piskor, Tracey Stephen, Charlene Spraggs, and Monique Dequier. Committee members will be distributing a survey/questionnaire to members in the coming weeks.

Thank you to all those who were able to attend the Wed. Nov. 27 meeting in Carman. We were able to achieve a quorum to carry out our meeting. The minutes will be available soon. We were able to put together a bargaining committee (our contract is up this June) and a bylaw committee (to work on reviewing and updating our bylaws).  The names will be posted on the committees page shortly. Other members are also encouraged to forward your ideas to the executive, the committees or through the communicators. Look for a survey on bargaining issues as well. Our local president reported that we will be examining additional health plan options and having a meeting for members before we have to choose a new health plan when our current one runs out at the end of June.  We will also be polling members on the end of year function. Look for more information on these issues and more in the posted mail. We continue to try to ensure members know about meetings and issues affecting them. Please help spread the word. In particular, let members know about this website, meeting notices, email contact and the option to have information faxed to their places of work if they do not have email access. We are planning a postal mailing soon.
