Thank you to our members for the good turnout to this meeting including new member John T. Irene I. took members through the treasurer’s report. Nickole B. and Tim D. reported on their attendance at the CUPE Sector Conference in Toronto and Lorraine F., Nickole B. and Tim. B. reported on their attendance at the Manitoba CUPE Sector Conference in Brandon (reports available from the secretary). All members involved reported that the sessions were valuable and that a lot of information was gained from discussion of issues with school sector workers from other regions and provinces. Lorraine F. gave the executive committee report with an update on the elections held at the Annual General Meeting. The By-Law Committee will present their recommendations at the January 28 meeting. There were a few labour management issues reported for Unit A and none for Unit B. Members voted to send our trustees and our president to the Trustee Course in Brandon Dec. 13 -14. We also moved that the executive be allowed to register up to 4 positions for Gimli Winter School from Feb. 26 – Mar. 1. The course topics have not been posted yet, however the registration deadline is coming up soon. Those interested in attending specific conferences should make application to the executive. Members are eligible as per the bylaws (must have attended a set percentage of meetings, etc.) with the executive making the final decision. The next meeting will be held Jan. 28 at St. Paul’s Collegiate in Elie at 7 p.m.
Congratulations to our CUPE Local Past President Tim Dupont who was elected Chairperson of the CUPE Manitoba School Sector Committee at the 2014 Solidarity/Manitoba School Sector Conference in Brandon.
