CUPE Local 4701 President’s Update

Good day,

As per the last divisional meeting, the June 15th recall is on hold due to the Government responses on the structure of fall schooling, Government funding is unknown and a possibility of student reduced numbers. The divisional calendars are on hold and they do not have a confirmation date of when students are to return.

If at any time a support staff needs to be in contact with an area rep and/or an Executive member regarding any Union issues, please feel free to email and or call.
We will do our best to update as we learn more.

At this time, your Executive would like to wish all of our support staff a very safe and restful summer break.

Thank you,

Tracey Stephen, President

Latest Update from our President

Greetings,

As per a meeting on April 23rd with Divisional Administration, clarification was provided to the Union.

MSBA Pension and Seniority will cease effective May 22, 2020. Support staff affected by the layoff as of Covid-19 are laid off as a group and therefore there is no changes to your seniority. MSBA Non-Teaching Pension does not allow for contributions while on layoff.

Additional premiums for Group Life (including AD&D, Dependent Insurance if applicable) and LTD payments will come off your April 30th and May 15th pay cheque for coverage as outlined in the layoff letter. Please refer to your pay voucher for the deduction amount that will be taken in addition to your current deduction.

Blue Cross will cease as of May 31st and a refund of monies accrued for July and August premiums will be issued via a PRSD pay voucher once PRSD is refunded from Blue Cross. Please read your layoff letter regarding further information on these issues.

ROE’s will be issued after your final pay is processed but you can apply for the CERB after May 22nd.

I want to thank all my Executive Committee and our National Rep for the continued support on working together and also thank all my members for being patient in these difficult times. As well, I really appreciate our area reps for relaying the information to their members and Heather for updating our Local website.

I also want to thank the Division for trying to keep us employed for as long as they could and for answering our issues in a timely manner.

Important Update from our President

Good afternoon, as per our Divisional meeting this morning, we have been notified that there will be lay offs for all drivers, library technicians and EA’s due to being considered non-essential workers. This will be in effect on April 23rd. You will be expected to continue working until May 22nd as our Collective Agreement states that the Division must give us a 30 calendar day written notice. They will send your lay off notice via your PRSD email and via Canada Post.

There is a continuation of some issues that we feel need to be dealt with. Your union will continue to work on proposals to keep more members working and to protect your seniority, accruals and benefits.

Please contact the Executive members who have been directly involved with the Division dealing with the Covid 19 work shortage issue (Marty, Samantha, Nickole or myself). Also, please contact any Executive member if you have any CUPE-related questions, issues or concerns.

Please remember to check the local’s website for any updates we receive: 4701.cupe.ca

We are continually working on all members behalf for the betterment of this local.

Thank you,

Tracey Stephen

Message from the President

Good evening, as per my email conversation this afternoon with the Superintendent, all Senior Administrators, including the Transportation Supervisor & the Facilities Supervisor, are awaiting direction from the Board of Trustees.

Any personnel decisions will be made by the Board of Trustees as the respective collective agreements are between the Board of Trustees and the respective employee groups.  It is the Superintendent’s hope that the Board of Trustees will provide direction next week.

Once they learn of the Board’s decision, they will be advising the Unions committee as soon as possible of their decision(s).

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
