Letter from departing CUPE Local 4701 President

Hello fellow Members and good afternoon,

For those of you who were unable to attend the Local’s AGM/Elections Meeting in St Laurent yesterday, Monique Dequier will be your new CUPE Local 4701 President for the next two years.

I want to thank Monique for the fair fight, and I wish her the best on this adventure of being our Local President. Lorraine is a good teacher and I hope Monique uses her vast knowledge of this Local and the Union as I did; Lorraine has lots to teach all of us.

Tracey and Joanne are also valuable assets as Shop Stewards to this new Executive Committee. They both possess a great deal of combined knowledge in regards to running the day-to-day operations of this Local and the Union and I wish them luck in all future labour management relations.

In reflecting on the time that we have spent together, I am most struck by all that I have learned, not only from Lorraine and CUPE, but also from each of you. Whether it be at general meetings, or conversations in passing, each of you have taught me a little something. We are all on this journey of education together. “Schools work because WE DO”, is a slogan I heard last week at the National School Sector, and it is true. We all work with children in one way or another in the Education sector and though we may not realize it, we are all teaching the next generation.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce your new Executive Committee and congratulate the newly elected members.

President – Monique Dequier
Vice President – Lorraine Futros
Secretary Treasurer – Irene Isaak
Recording Secretary – Nickole Bernardin
Chief Shop Steward (1) – Tracey Stephen
Shop Steward (2) – Joanne Piskor

There is a change to the email account that will be used by your new President, Monique Dequier..

Please ensure cupe4701@hotmail.com has been added as a safe sender and not ending up as junk mail.

Please continue the fight, though I may not be leading you currently, I am still right beside you.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Tim Dupont
